The World Sang Day
The World Sang Day (Tib. འཛམ་གླིང་སྤྱི་བསང་། Dzamling Chi Sang), also called ‘The Universal Incense-Offering Day”, “The Universal Prayer Day’ or ‘World Incense Festival’ is a special Vajrayana ritual with extensive offerings, especially the grand Sang offering to the local deities and earth spirits to foster harmony and peace and bring forth good luck and prosperity in the community, the country, and the world at large. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the fifth Tibetan lunar month.
Guru Rinpoche first performed the Dzamling Chisang ritual as a Thanksgiving feast for the local deities, protectors, and earth spirits upon the completion and inauguration of Samye Monastery. As a reward, Guru Rinpoche also composed a Sang Sol - Incense Offering text for the local deities that he bound them under oath to protect Buddha dharma. Since then, the traditions of Sang Sol offering and the Dzamling Chisang celebration continue until today.
Apart from inducing auspiciousness and good luck, this practice also has the power to purify the breaches of Samayas and violation of vows and pacify unfavorable factors. Consequently, conducive circumstances and excellence for Dharma will naturally increase and strengthen. Ultimately, transcendent wisdom will arise effortlessly through perfecting the accumulation of merit.
