RABNE Consecration Ritual

Lhabab Duchen Special Puja:

RABNE Consecration Puja

In Tibetan Buddhism, the 'Rabne' (རབ་གནས་) consecration is an important ritual. This ceremony purifies and blesses sacred items such as statues, thangkas, and places of worship, along with other objects utilized in practice. It is also crucial for consecrating newly established temples and monasteries.

"The RABNE consecration ritual invites the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions to indwell the temple or statue, infusing it with their enlightened essence of body, speech, and mind. This sacred act ensures their perpetual presence to tirelessly benefit all sentient beings until the end of samsara. It is for the welfare of these beings, that we conduct the consecration and earnestly offer our prayers.”

This ritual is conducted by a qualified lama or spiritual master who invokes the presence of the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, or wisdom protectors, requesting them to reside in the consecrated objects or spaces, and blesses them so that they may serve as suitable supports for the spiritual practice of sentient beings.

The consecration is an intricate ritual that goes beyond the physical acts of consecration, purification, and blessing. It encompasses the invocation of enlightened beings and the establishment of a divine presence within the consecrated objects or places. The empowerment aspect of "Rabne" assures that these objects or spaces are imbued with sacred energy, transforming them into suitable vessels for the divine and as focal points for accumulating merit and deepening spiritual insight for practitioners.

May the faultless teaching of the Buddha flourish and spread in all directions!

May the supreme holders of the teachings remain for hundreds of kalpas!

May virtue and excellence pervade throughout the world!

And may the benefits of self and others be spontaneously accomplished!

The Auspicious Lhabab Duchen:

In alignment with the auspicious day of Lhabab Duchen—commemorating Lord Buddha's return to our world from the celestial realms after imparting three months of teachings to his mother—Choegon Rinpoche has thoughtfully scheduled the RABNE puja. Conducting the puja on this day magnifies its merits, enhancing the blessings and benefits received.

Lhabab Duchen, a sacred time marking Lord Buddha's descent from the heavenly realm, is a period ripe for accumulating merit. It is considered an extraordinarily sacred and propitious time—a powerful day to refrain from negative actions and to engage more earnestly in virtuous deeds and Dharma practices.
