The late H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and his Kudung Chorten (memorial stupa) at Kyichu Lhakhang near Paro. Kyichu temple is one of Bhutan's oldest and most beautiful temples; believed to have been built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo.

His Holiness entered into parinirvana on the 19th day of the 8th month of the Tibetan lunar calendar in year 1991 (27th September, 1991). He was universally recognized as one of the greatest Vajrayana masters, an eminent scholar and poet, as well as an inspiring teacher. He spent more than 20 years in retreat; composed and compiled over 25 volumes on Buddhist philosophy and practice; saved and published countless sacred texts, and initiated numerous projects to preserve and disseminate the Tibetan Buddhism tradition, culture and teachings. His accomplishments and contributions in various fields seem more than enough to have filled an entire lifetime.

THE IMMENSE BLESSING OF THE ENLIGHTENED MASTERS ON THEIR PARINIRVANA ANNIVERSARIES

Like the anniversary of Lord Buddha's Mahaparinirvana, the parinirvana anniversary of great enlightened masters is regarded as a significant and particularly blessed day for serious Vajrayana practitioners.

The physical body of the gurus may have left this world, but their blessings remain. It is said that the guru's blessings are most powerful at the moment they enter nirvana and on all their parinirvana anniversaries. Therefore, these are the best moments with the highest possibilities for meditators and practitioners to become enlightened or heighten their realization.

On this day, practicing Guru Yoga with fervent devotion, supplicating earnestly, and meditating undistractedly, is akin to merging our ordinary minds with the enlightened mind of the masters. The powers of blessing and merit accumulated are incredible.

All are welcome to participate in this auspicious and beneficial event.
